After reviewing coffees, lattes, little savouries and sweet meats that fills the tummy, we decided to take a break and enjoy a gastronomically new experience. In order to find this new taste we decided to head down towards the beach.
Ever since I heard about 'Loon Tao' the newest Chinese Seafood restaurant that has wooed everyone's appetite, I have been pining to go there and experience their cuisine and today my wish was finally fulfilled. For a person who loves the beach and the sand, the setting of Loon Tao is perfect! The restaurant which is located along the coast of Mt. Lavinia is nestled in front of the vast ocean and has a unique architecture entwined to it.
As we prepared ourselves to this luxurious meal, we were served the Loon Tao High seasons assorted dish as the first of many dishes. This appetizer which included a variety of hors d'oeuvres was tasty and had the promise of a good meal ahead.
Second in line was the Shanghai style stir fried prawns with spring onions. The dish which was made using large prawns, was very tasty and crispy and is definitely in the must try list of dishes. The Schezuwan style deep fried cuttle fish with dried chilli definitely had quite a number of chillies in it but surprisingly when I was munching on it I found out that it was not that spicy and it actually adds a nice flavour to the dish.
Among the many varieties of noodles available at Loon Tao, we decided to try out the Cantonese style crispy fried noodles which is another dish that you need to look out for.
Since today is all about seafood I decided to indulge in other favourite delicacy; The tasty and meaty crabs. To fulfil this inner sense of hunger, I ordered the Singapore style chilli crab. Even though the crab wasn't very fleshy, the dish was tasty and adds as another must try dish at the restaurant. We also tried out the Chunky fried fillet of fish with mashed potato in black pepper sauce a dish under the Moda category. The fillets were soft and succulent and was well teamed with the creamy mashed potato.
In between filling myself with prawns and crabs and other such delicacies, I also tried out the Steam bean curd dish garnished with prawn meat. This is one of the most unique dishes I have tasted so far and the taste made a lasting impression on me. If you're into bean curd and prawns, this is definitely a taste you must experience. In addition to this Loon Tao also offers a vast variety of clay pot dishes, vegetarian dishes and sizzlers. .
Clay pot chicken with onion and ginger, clay pot lamb with black mushrooms and bamboo shoots, Sizzling prawn with black pepper sauce, Sizzling mixed mushrooms with oyster sauce, Kang kung in garlic sauce and Mock duck in oyster sauce are just some of the few dishes Loon Tao offers.
Unlike most restaurants in town, Loon Tao offers a variety of Chinese cuisines including Cantonese, Schezuwan, Peking and Shanghai. They also say that they serve only the freshest seafood combined with good vegetables focusing mainly on organic ingredients.
Sitting in front of the vast ocean, listening to the sound of waves; Loon Tao is undeniably one of the nicest restaurants in town. |
