Today, we were back on the streets of Colombo in search of some of the best café food in town. Though we had gone about experimenting café food on previous occasions we had forgotten some of the most interesting places in our city. In order to make up for the loss, we decided to head down to one of Colombo's hottest spots; the Commons and experience what this café / restaurant has to offer.
Since it was all about café food today, I decided to give into my heart's desire and opted for a Mango milk shake. The milk shake was heavenly and is definitely one of the must tries at Commons. Since they have an array of milk shakes, I'm quite sure you will manage to find what your heart and your taste buds desire within a span of minutes.
The Baked Crab with potato wedges was another instant favourite of mine. The dish made out of baked crab flesh was well teamed with the potato wedges which managed to give the extra bit of flavour and crispiness to the dish.
Among the many varieties of savoury fillings available at the roti cart, we decided to taste the Tandoori chicken cheese roti. Unfortunately the filling was a bit too salty and bland for my taste. But have no fear the roti cart's fillings range from roast chicken, chilli beef to spicy vegetables and many more so you will definitely find something to satisfy your hunger. The Chicken BBQ Super was scrumptious and quite big unlike most burgers which are served at various fast food outlets. The burgers served at Commons are quite famous among the youth who spend a lot of time at the restaurant.
In my opinion the Prawn potato parcel was quite okay. Since the prawns were mixed with potato, there was no flavour except for potato and the occasional taste of prawns. In addition to the Prawn parcel, Commons also offers a variety of fillings such as chicken and crab. If the parcel is not your kind of food, you can always try out the pies which are also offered with a range of fillings to suit your taste.
The baked cheesecake with raspberry sauce was delicious and another must. I was also fortunate enough to taste the Brownie with chocolate sauce roti wrap which falls into the category of sweet roti wrap. This particular sweet roti was really tasty and is worth the try. In addition to a variety of sweet rotis, they also offer an assortment of desserts which includes Apple crumble, Tiramisu, Chocolate heaven and Mango mousse.
Commons is the ideal place to chill out with your friends as the ambience is comfortable and is definitely a place to indulge in your favourite goodies. |
