Food For Thought

 Coffee Shop

Hotel Galadari has been around for a while. Located near  the Galle Face green,  and like most hotels in the area this too has a colourful past attached to its package. Today, we decided to pay a visit to this grand old lady and feature the Coffee Shop for today's food review.  Starting off today's menu, we decided to taste the Sandwich cake which was recommended by none other than the Executive Chef of Hotel Galadari; Chef Lloyd Opatha. According to him, this is one of his many unique dishes and therefore, he  insisted that we try it.

To my surprise, when the dish was laid in front of me, I couldn't recognize it as it looked exactly like a ribbon cake with white icing on top. This Smoked salmon sandwich cake was delicious and was one of the best I have had in recent times and yes it is a must try out dish at the Coffee Shop.

Before we could harp on it more, the Chef left us to enjoy the dish and hurried back to the kitchen in order to present us with the next dish. We had decided to taste a Chicken corn soup next. A few minutes later, we were served the warm soup which was quite nice.

The next dish we tasted was the Seafood spaghetti which was delicious and is definitely a must try! The dish was made according to a French recipe and was topped off with lots of prawns, seer fish, shoe lobster and cuttle fish. For those who are in favour of creamy flavours, this is the perfect dish for you.

The Chocolate mousse at Galadari is known to be the hotel's signature dessert as it is one of the best in town. According to Chef Sallay, this delicious dessert is a result of a secret recipe that the Chefs at Galadari guard very safely. The mousse was rich with chocolate unlike most chocolate mousses which are served at other restaurants which are most often rich in icing.

While pondering after the meal, I realized that I had got what I had come for; not only by means of food and service but I was also able to relive the experience of enjoying a meal at a Coffee Shop.
