Café Du Monde |
 |
Today's destination took me back in time as I had to head towards my old hometown where I had spent my entire childhood. The streets of Havelock town were exactly as I remembered it five years ago. But nestled among the old buildings was a glass structure that was renowned for its chocolate chip cookies and delicious food, a place that has lived in this city for the few years; the Café Du Monde. My first experience at this restaurant was indeed memorable as the food made a lasting impression on me so I was back here again as today was all about reliving an old memory.

Hotel Galadari has been around for a while. Located near the Galle Face green, and like most hotels in the area this too has a colourful past attached to its package. Today, we decided to pay a visit to this grand old lady and feature the Coffee Shop for today's food review. Starting off today's menu, we decided to taste the Sandwich cake which was recommended by none other than the Executive Chef of Hotel Galadari; Chef Lloyd Opatha. According to him, this is one of his many unique dishes and therefore, he insisted that we try it.

Coffees and Lattes |
|
The Echo Today instead of focusing on lavish meals and delicate cuisines, we decided to pay tribute to the most important mug of coffee that most people cannot live without!
For some people coffee is the first and last drink of the day. Their entire day depends on their coffee mug and its energizing power. I too, fall into this category of coffee addicts; even though my day does not depend on that perfectly brewed coffee I honestly think that a good coffee has the power to change your day for the better. With this positive note on my mind I headed down to Rajagiriya to experience some of the renowned coffees in town.

Golden Mile |

The ocean that surrounds our little island is one of the best things about being a Sri Lankan. If you ever have the need to splash a bit, swim in the sea or just build a sand castle to relive your childhood; all you have to do is visit the coastline that we have been abundantly gifted with. The beach is something I love dearly. In my opinion the atmosphere, the sea spray and the waves have the extraordinary power of soothing any soul. The sound of the waves colliding and the smell of the sea is an experience in itself.

Havelock Bungalow |
|
Today's choice of food, took us back to the Havelock town. The area of the city which still has its greenery and its rambutan stands (which will be on display in the month of July and August) lined up in front of the park. After passing a popular supermarket situated in town, you make a right turn and enter into a Secret Garden, which is hidden away among the big trees far from the busy streets of Havelock town.

Summerfields |

Another review, and yet another hotel buffet. For those of you who are somewhat envious of my life as a food critic may have begun to hope that I am getting a little sick of this by now, that eating out all the time might be getting a bit repetitive and boring, well I am sorry to disappoint you but its not. I love my weekly reviews, not just because I am greedy but because every restaurant experience is different- the company, the décor and of course the food is never the same. Every week I find myself enjoying something new |

Bayleaf |
 |
When thinking of getting away from town and simply not having time to do so The Bayleaf is the ideal location to do so. Especially this time of year when the rains come down quite heavy The Bayleaf takes on a magical persona. The 19th century colonial mansion which has been tastefully morphed in to one of Colombo’s most popular restaurants has made quite name for its self and gained a special place in our hearts. This Italian restaurant mainly serves northern and central cuisine from Italy and has been well complimented by Italian friends of mine who have been lucky enough to step through her doors.

The Echo is in every word of the sense an Authentic Italian Restaurant. Home to an Italian Master Chef from Sicily it’s a true treat to dine here. Located in the new Spa Building at the Cinnamon Grand the cuisine is typically southern Italian with a quite a variety of dishes to select from. The sleek contemporary interior does make one feel that dinning here is a privilege.

Lavinia Breeze |
 |
The beach has always been a place of romance I have felt, with dramatic sunsets painted by the gods themselves and the sound of the waves crashing on the golden shores like the overtures of a symphony. We fortunately live on an island which has been blessed with some of the most breathtaking beaches in the world. To add to the romance, a few restaurants on the shore lines in the country have made quite a bit of names for themselves by either making the mood right by ambiance or by serving some truly exotic cuisine. One such place which has got all of the above just right is the Lavinia Breeze. Although I haven’t been here before I had heard that it is the place to go to especially with that special someone. So when I knew that my next little stopover was the Lavinia Breeze I was quite excited. As usual after flipping through my little black book I came to the usual conclusion of going with my brother who has been reminding me that I haven’t cooked a good meal for him recently. So it was decided that my romantic date was to be with my little brother. |

Long Feng |
 |
After many years the Long Feng at Trans Asia reopened a few months ago as a Singaporean restaurant. The Long Feng in this short period has become one of the most sought after places to dine out at. Trans Asia has reworked the look of the restaurant and even given it an outdoor garden with seating there as well which I think was a great idea and works fabulously since the restaurant is over looking the lake.

Nihombashi |
 |
Japanese food had taken the world by storm during the past few years. When one thinks Japanese one immediately thinks raw fish. This is quite true to a sense since around 675 AD when the official religion of Japan was changed to Buddhism the Emperor of Japan prohibited the killing and eating of all meat throughout Japan except for fish. This lasted for the next two thousand two-hundred years. This gave way to the evolution of their unique cuisine. Currently you will find that Japanese food consists of much more than just fish. The key this cuisine is the perfect balance of flavors which work in harmony with each other that they have achieved. |

Royal Thai |
 |
The Royal Thai at Trans Asia has always been one of the most popular restaurants in town. The lavish colours of green and gold give you the feeling of warmth and welcomes you in, cosy but stylish. I was having one of my usual days so I was running a bit late. So when we did make it down to the restaurant our table was given out. This I thought was quite fair since running a bit late meant an hour and a half or so. Therefore we quite happily waited in their comfy waiting area and ordered some wine. Once sitting down we decided to go ahead and order while we were waiting and having opened the very stylish menu which I must say I’ve always been impressed with – we made our pick. |
